Why is my iguana so afraid of me?

i talk to him and i play with him plenty but i trid to get him out of his cage and he was freaking out i went to go put him back in and he dropped his tail ever since then im kinda scared of him. im not sure if he trusts me anymore how can i gain the trust back from him?
