Surface piercing questions?

I'm thinking of getting a surface piercing, and scheduled a consultation with my piercer. I'm leaning toward a wrist one, but am curious to the other types? I've been researching but can't find much. Also, with proper care, could I keep one as a permanant piercing? And any other information you think I would need to know would be amazing. Thanks in advance.
