Magazine work experience?

Has anyone done work experience at a magazine like cosmo, sugar, vogue or anything like that? If so how did you get to do it? I'm interested in a career in fashion journalism and wanted to get work experience to help with future applications. I'm 18 and hoping to get some experience over the summer when iv finished my A levels before going to uni to study English. If you have worked at any of those magazines what was it like and what kind of thing did you have to do etc ?? thanks x
